All animal users are required to complete “Working with the IACUC” and “Reducing Pain and Distress in Laboratory Mice and Rats.”  Even if you use a species other than mice and rats, the general principles apply, although the specifics may be different for other species.  Training for other species is available on an as-needed basis.

PIs are responsible for ensuring that all staff and students working on their animal protocols have completed the training.  All animal users must complete the training in order to have AUPs or Annual Reviews approved.

Users should not have to send verification of training, as it should be documented within the CITI system.  You will be contacted if this is not the case.  UAMS training is valid for three years, after which a refresher course is required.  You will be notified by CITI when your refresher training is due.
