Getting Started with Animal Research at UAMS
Several steps are required to begin animal research at UAMS. The following checklist is provided to ensure completion of all requirements:
1. Obtaining Animal Certification
- The SEHS DLAM has been moved from this site to MyChart. If you need to complete this training before your annual medical screening is due, please contact SEHS at 501-686-66565 to have this questionnaire sent to you.
- Complete Required Workday courses:
When all of these requirements above have been met, DLAM will issue a Certification Number to the staff member, notifying the staff member, Principle Investigator, if applicable, and the IACUC Office by email.
2. Facility Access Request Form
All Research personnel must be approved on an AUP (Animal Use Protocol) before requesting access to the Animal Facilities.
For animal facilities visitors, please stop by our office in Central 1/031 Suite to fill out an Animal Facilities Visitation Request form. Please be familiar with the “Occupational Health & Safety Hazards” information sheet below.
3. Complete CITI Training for Animal Users
Access information on how to complete CITI training.
4. Assignment and Use of Animal Rooms
- Animal housing space is assigned by DLAM. Investigators are encouraged to notify DLAM of anticipated needs as far in advance as possible.
- Research animals must be housed within the DLAM animal facility and cannot be kept outside of the facility for greater than 24 hours (rodents only) without IACUC approval.
