Kerry L. Evans, Ph.D., ELS, Director, Science Communication Group

Kerry earned a doctorate in microbiology and immunology from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, where she studied bacterial stress responses. She has published original research and worked as a freelance science writer and manuscript editor. Kerry is a member of the American Medical Writers Association and is a board-certified Editor in the Life Sciences (ELS).

Science Communication Group Editors

Science Communication Group science editors are

  • Grounded in biological sciences, social sciences, and medical writing
  • Experienced in research project and consortium development
  • Skilled in grantsmanship, document organization, and document design and formatting

Peggy Epes, Ph.D., ELS

Peggy has over 20 years of experience in scientific writing and editing. She holds a doctorate in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of California, Davis, and she also taught and conducted research at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Peggy has written her own funded grant applications, as well as abstracts, manuscripts, and slide presentations. As an editor, she is skilled in a broad range of areas, including substantively editing research proposals, manuscripts, brochures, and reports, as well as organizing and preparing figures. Peggy is a member of the American Medical Writers Association and is a board-certified Editor in the Life Sciences (ELS).

Emily L. Hunter, Ph.D., ELS

Emily holds a doctorate in the biological and biomedical sciences from Emory University in Atlanta, GA. She performed postdoctoral studies in genetics and biochemistry at Washington University in St. Louis, where she also served as a scientific editor. Emily has taught several scientific communication workshops on drafting manuscripts, developing specific aims, and giving presentations. She has experience writing and revising abstracts, research proposals, and manuscripts. She also has generated and edited scientific figures, graphics, and slide decks. Emily is a member of the American Medical Writers Association and is a board-certified Editor in the Life Sciences (ELS).  

Meredith Joheim, M.S., ELS

Meredith has almost six years of experience as a science writer and editor. She earned a master’s degree in biology from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Her background includes writing abstracts, study reports, SOPs, and training manuals. With an additional 10 years of experience working in the science field, she has conducted research, managed laboratory operations for preclinical and clinical trials, and created a hands-on-science curriculum for elementary and middle school students. Meredith is a member of the American Medical Writers Association and is a board-certified Editor in the Life Sciences (ELS).

Eric Rathman, M.S., ELS

Eric has over 20 years of experience as a science writer and editor. He holds a master’s degree in biology from The State University of New York at Fredonia. Before joining the Science Communication Group in 2018, he worked on writing and editing Toxicity and Carcinogenicity reports for the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences’ National Toxicology Program. Eric has also worked in data management in support of pharmaceutical clinical trials and has taught at the college level. Eric is a member of the American Medical Writers Association and is a board-certified Editor in the Life Sciences (ELS).
