Mission

Goals

Our research team strives to examine the impact of the new medical cannabis laws in Arkansas both before and after they are put into effect. This will allow us to see how the opinions of Arkansans toward medical cannabis use change, as well as how cannabis treatment might influence the overall health of potential medical cannabis patients. Likewise, we seek to identify any adverse effects that might arise among medical cannabis patients. Part of our research involves the opinions of Arkansas residents on pharmacist involvement in the medical cannabis program, and whether Arkansas residents believe that they are well-prepared to provide safe patient counselling on product use. Our study goals also include evaluating what is known about the pharmacological effects of medical cannabis and any drug interactions that may occur.

Timeline

Our project involves a five-year study that will be conducted in cohorts. The first self-administered survey was opened in February of 2018, with the second cohort to follow in early 2019. The later cohorts will be opened after the medical cannabis program becomes available in Arkansas and data will be collected at 6, 12, 18, 24, 36, 48, and 60 months after product availability.
