As per the Alcoholic Beverage Control Division, pharmacist consultants in the medical cannabis dispensaries must be available for consultation by phone or video conference. They will be required to develop training for other dispensary agents once yearly involving patient information, how to identify substance abuse, and procedure on how to refuse to dispense cannabis to a patient on the grounds of suspected substance abuse. Patient education must include contraindications, adverse effects, guidelines for notifying a patient’s physician of any adverse events, information on the different medical cannabis products and strengths, and possible drug interactions. A complete list of rules and regulations governing dispensaries and dispensary agents can be found under the Alcoholic Beverage Control Division. Any pharmacist interested in becoming involved as a medical cannabis dispensary consultant must apply as a dispensary agent with the Medical Marijuana Arkansas Department of Health site.
More information regarding the role of a pharmacists consultant is outlined in Act 1024 of the 91st General Assembly in the State of Arkansas.
