Research Experience

Michael Cucciare is a clinical psychologist and health services researcher interested in using technology to improve outcomes for persons with substance use and mental health disorders. He is currently a PI on projects that adapt and test the effectiveness of a direct-to-patient self-management intervention for reducing long-term benzodiazepine use (VA HSR&D, IIR 18-029) and a virtual intervention to improve linkage to alcohol care for primary care patients with hazardous drinking and mental health symptoms (VA HSR&D, IIR 20-058). He is also a PI on a project testing the effectiveness of a brief case management intervention to improve criminal justice and substance use outcomes in homeless Veterans (VA HSR&D, IIR 18-040) and is currently a co-I on several NIAAA/NIDA funded grants testing the effectiveness of innovative interventions to improve outcomes for substance using populations.

Research Interests: addiction health services research, development and evaluation of interventions for improving substance use and mental health outcomes in medical populations, brief intervention
