The University of Arkansas and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences are hosting a Metabolism in Health and Disease Symposium to be held Nov. 16-17, 2021, on the Fayetteville campus to strengthen existing connections and facilitate new collaborations of biomedically focused investigators.
Participants from University of Arkansas and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences with an existing collaboration with the other campus or who have identified a potential person/focus area for collaboration on the other campus will be invited to either give an oral presentation or present a poster. The tentative symposium schedule is as follows:
Day 1 (Nov. 16, 2021)
Location: Don Tyson Center for Agricultural Sciences (DTAS); 1371 W Altheimer Drive, Fayetteville, Arkansas
Attendees: Provost Gardner, Provost Robinson, all participating University of Arkansas and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences faculty, admin, students, postdoc attendees

- 6-8:30 p.m. — Reception/Meet and Greet
- Welcome Remarks — University of Arkansas Provost Robinson and University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Provost Gardner
Day 2 (Nov. 17, 2021)
Location: Don Tyson Center for Agricultural Sciences (DTAS); 1371 W Altheimer Drive, Fayetteville, Arkansas
Attendees: All participating University of Arkansas and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Faculty, students, postdocs
Schedule:
- 8:40-9 a.m. — Welcome/Introductions by John English (VCRI – University of Arkansas) and Shuk-Mei Ho, Ph.D. (VCRI – University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences)
- 9-11 a.m. — Eight presentations (four from the University of Arkansas and four from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences) (10 minutes each; five minutes Q&A). Each presenter will highlight existing collaborations or describe opportunities for future collaborations.
- 11-11:15 a.m. — Biobreak
- 11:15-Noon — Approximately 50 poster presentations will be given by faculty, students, postdocs (Select abstracts will be chosen for three-minute talks)
- Noon-1 p.m. — Lunch at assigned tables
- 1-2:30 p.m. — Specific breakout sessions led by presenters. (Discussion leaders from each campus to be identified.)
- 2:30 p.m. — Summary/Closing Remarks by Dr. Ho and Dr. English
