Revised versions of all five of the IRB’s policies pertaining to recruitment practices are now posted on the IRB’s website.
This section describes considerations in recruiting, selecting, and compensating subjects. These issues are critically important to the protection of human subjects and the promotion of subjects’ rights, safety, and welfare. Research teams and the IRB both need to be careful that potential subjects are selected and recruited appropriately, and that any compensation offered will not unduly influence a decision to participate or complete a study.
Most of the changes are related to formatting and readability. Today’s update of policy 14.1 corrects a minor editing error from a version posted 10 days ago. While nothing in these policies is dramatically new, we strongly encourage research staff and IRB members to refer to them frequently when planning and evaluating recruitment strategies.
The policies are:
14.3, Subject Recruitment Materials
14.4, Compensation to Investigators and Health Care Workers for Enrolling Subjects
