CLARA FAQs

What is CLARA?

CLARA is the online research administration system through which all human subject research projects are processed. Many different offices, including the UAMS Institutional Review Board, rely on CLARA submissions to review, process, and approve research.

How do I access CLARA?

You can access CLARA at clara.uams.edu. CLARA is a web-based system that can be accessed from anywhere.

How do I request an account in CLARA?

If your UAMS login and password aren’t working in CLARA, please click on the “Don’t have an account?” link on the CLARA login page to have an account created for you.

You can also use the “Don’t have an account?” link if you don’t have a UAMS login and password. Note that the form will ask some additional questions related to your CLARA access if you are not part of the UAMS or Arkansas Childrens’ workforce. Once approved, the IRB office will create your account, and the system will send your login and temporary password to the email address entered in the request form.

Please use the same email address as your main email for both your CLARA and CITIprogram.org accounts. This action will facilitate the two systems’ communications and will make it more likely that CLARA accurately reflects your current CITI training status.

How can I learn to use CLARA?

Once you log into CLARA, look for the “help” link in the black bar at the top of the page. This link will take you to illustrated instructions for the most common CLARA tasks.

Why am I not receiving my email notifications from CLARA?

You will be notified of review determinations via emails from CLARA.

Note that only certain study staff roles will automatically receive CLARA notifications, such as the PI and the person managing the CLARA submission. If you need to get these email notifications and you are not listed in one of these roles, please submit a staff only modification form in CLARA to update your role.

Sometimes messages from CLARA will be marked as spam by your email client. Please check your spam folder for messages from “noreply@clara.uams.edu.” Ensure that your email account has not marked this address as junk to receive them in your inbox.

How do I upload a CV in CLARA?

CVs can be uploaded directly to user profiles in CLARA, rather than to individual studies. Adding them to your profile will automatically link the CV to every study on which you are listed as an investigator or staffer.

To upload a CV to your profile, click on the “Your Account” link at upper right after your log in. You’ll then see an “Upload CV” function at the lower left of the profile screen. Click there to upload your current CV or resume.
