Some of the biggest sessions at next week’s Advancing Ethical Research conference in San Antonio will be available remotely on the UAMS campus, thanks to the UAMS Office of Research Compliance. The conference, organized each year by Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research (PRIM&R), is the big human subject research conference each year, where thousands of research professionals meet to discuss new regulations and best practices, evolving types of research, etc.
The so-called “virtual meeting” is scheduled for 8am to 4:45pm Monday, Nov. 6, in EdII, Room G141B; 8am to 4:30pm Tuesday, Nov. 7, and 8am to 2:15pm Wednesday, Nov. 8, in EdII in G110A/B. Please note you can come and go as you like to attend only those sessions of particular interest to you, so you don’t need to block off entire days. This is a big year in research, and the topics slated to be covered in the virtual meeting include the looming revised Common Rule, tissue repositories and data banks, informed consent, and research misconduct. You can find a complete agenda at the ORC’s website here.
The above link also includes links to register for each day. CRS elective credit will be available for the number of hours you attend. Please be sure to sign in to get the CRS credit. Note that seating may be a little limited Tuesday and Wednesday, so please be sure to sign up in advance to let the organizers know you’re coming.
This conference has a little something for everybody who works in research — IRB reviewers and office staff, investigators and research staff. We at IRB Blog headquarters are planning to attend at least some of the sessions, and hope to see you there. If you can’t make it, keep in mind ORC will have taped versions of the sessions available for later viewing, once PRIM&R makes them available.
For any questions, or for help with signing up, please email ORC Education Coordinator Kimberly Givens at kgivens@uams.edu.
