We know the federal Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) mainly through its interactions with researchers and research sites. Now, however, OHRP has made available a wealth of resources for potential research subjects and others interested in research. The About Research Participation web page has videos and other resources describing research concepts. One aspect we love here at IRB Blog Central is the Questions to Ask resource. These questions help guide potential participants to the information they’d need to know when deciding whether to join a study. They could also be used as a guide for research staffs assessing potential participants’ understanding of informed consent information. We encourage everyone to spend some time clicking around on the site and seeing how you can incorporate it into your work. It would be especially helpful to new research staff and new IRB reviewers, people who design or carry out informed consent processes, or to anyone who’d appreciate refresher on the things potential subjects think about when considering joining a research study. Another bonus — the entire web page is available in Spanish too.
