An updated version of IRB Policy 15.2, titled Consent Exceptions — Planned Emergency Research, is now posted on the IRB’s website. We’ve updated the language to delete a reference to a policy that has been archived, and changed the formatting to fit our current style.
The policy’s main idea hasn’t changed — the UAMS IRB still does not review research that falls into the “planned emergency research” category. Note that this is different from human subject research done in an emergency setting; that type of research is allowed here. Planned emergency research involves meeting certain additional regulatory requirements related to community notification, and also involves some additional risks that must be addressed. UAMS does not participate in this type of research at this time.
