If you thought you heard the angels singing today, your ears weren’t playing tricks on you — they really were singing (the angels, not your ears). Why? Because the required human subject protection training taken online at citiprogram.org is now valid for three years, up from the previous two years. That means you and your staff will only have to take the course once every three years instead of every two years, thanks to a recent policy change. Note that this change takes effect immediately, meaning your current CITI training will be valid for three years from the most recent completion date. If you get reminders to complete after two years, please let us know. Those reminders are sent automatically and while we think we’ve fixed the issue, we’d like to know if any slip through.
Note that some things never change, though. When you log in to take the required human subject protection training, please be sure to affiliate with UAMS as your institution. Be careful not to accidentally select UALR or U of A, both of which we see occasionally. Once you’re affilated with UAMS, the required course will be one of the below, depending on the type of research you’re involved in:
- Basic Biomedical Research Course on Human Subject Protection Training, which is appropriate for persons whose research or potential research involves drugs, devices, and surgical/invasive procedures.
- Social & Behavioral Research Course on Human Subject Protection Training, which is appropriate for persons whose research or potential research is relevant to those disciplines and does not involve drugs, devices or surgical/invasive procedures.
