The UAMS IRB requires all study personnel who interact with subjects or with identifiable private information to be current on human subject protection training through citiprogram.org. Please note that not all CITI trainings are the same, and the IRB asks that you take the UAMS-specific training. To do this, please be certain to affiliate with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences when choosing an institution at citiprogram.org. When you type “University of Arkansas” into the “search for organization box at citiprogram.org, four options will appear in the dropdown box — UA Fayetteville, UA Pine Bluff, UA Little Rock, and UAMS. Be sure to choose UAMS to be directed to the correct course options.
On the next screen, you’ll see several options under the “Human Subjects Research” heading. Choose either Biomedical Research or Social and Behavioral Research, depending on which category best describes your research. The IRB requires one of these to be completed for you to meet its CITI training requirement.
Note that two courses under the “Optional Human Subjects Research Courses” heading have similar names — Biomedical Responsible Conduct of Research, and Social and Behavioral Responsible Conduct of Research. These courses, by themselves, will not satisfy the IRB’s training criteria.
Note that if you have already completed comparable CITI training at another institution, such as the VA, the UAMS IRB may accept that training in lieu of our regular training. The IRB will consider those cases individually. Note also that CITI training needs to be updated every two years to stay current.
