When you’re developing recruitment materials for your study, please ensure that the final product makes it clear that this project is research. We know this can be tricky in tweets or other social media blurbs that don’t give you a lot of characters to work with. However, it’s important to emphasize to prospective participants that this thing we hope they consider signing up for is a research project. The easiest way to do that is to use the word “research” in your description of the project. Also, remember to be careful to not promise anything in terms of outcomes of the research to individuals. After all, if we already knew the intervention works, we wouldn’t need to a study about it.
